Library Instruction
We’re revamping our instruction offerings!  Check back soon!
The Harwood Library offers instruction and orientations on how to find information in the library and via online tools.  For more information, email The Librarian.

Orientations
With a library orientation, new students are introduced to the library’s physical collections and the library’s website.  Students are entered into the system so that they can borrow materials, and they are instructed on basic library rules (check out periods, silent study areas, audiobook check outs and more.)

Research Instruction
If your class has a research paper due this semester, your students would benefit from a quick introduction (or refresher) on how to access/utilize academic databases and how to effectively search the Web.  Students often do not know that the library has extensive databases available to them – and that databases often provide faster, easier searching than the Web.  Research instruction can include how to assess a website for credibility, how to create an effective search phrase, how/when to cite, copyright/plagiarism laws, and where to go for help.

Individual Consultations
Students and faculty may request to work one-on-one with the Librarian.  This guarantees uninterrupted research help.

Book Talks
Looking for a good book to read?  Book talks can help.  Find out your students’ interests, and the Librarian will hand-pick a selection of books for them.  Book Talks can be 5-15 minutes long or more, depending on the number of students.  This is a great way to introduce students to books they may have overlooked in the past.

Book/Material Suggestions
We’re always on the look out for new materials to add to the collection.  If you have an appropriate book, audiobook, DVD or database you would like the library to purchase, please contact the Librarian.
